About

Hi, I’m Ty, and I’m a lover of the light. I’m a lover of feeling, and other people—helping them, loving them, listening to them; I love hearing other people’s stories. I’ve discovered that for the most part, once you get to know someone—hear their story—they become impossible not to love. That’s what I’m passionate about: love. We can’t appreciate love, joy, or anything else that the light brings without first knowing darkness and everything that brings, which I why I started this blog.
When I was seventeen I moved away from my family to Salt Lake City, Utah, to train with an elite triathlon squad in hopes of racing professionally someday (I even set my hopes to make the Olympic team one day, but I kept that bit mostly to myself for a long time). Soon after moving away I was met with depression and anxiety; they grew in severity until they posed a great threat to my very life. I lived like this for over a year, wading through the dark, numb to most everything except self loathing and anxiety.
Eventually the anxiety overwhelmed me and out of desperation I decided to give up elite triathlon racing.
Then I began to heal.
Depression overwhelmed me until I was forced to focus on myself, and the beauty surrounding me in the small, seemingly insignificant, things around me everyday. When I was no longer caught up in the enormous picture of trying to make the Olympic team, I began to see the beauty that surrounded me everyday, and the beauty that was always inside of me.
This is why I started this blog, to share my love of the light with those who are already basking in it—company makes everything sweeter—and to offer hope to those still wading through the darkness. A line from my favorite musical Les Misérables says it best: “Even the darkest night will end, and the sun will rise!”
So to those who are basking in the love of life right now, and the broken hearted mending their souls, pull up a chair and lets go chase inspiration, love, and the hope of light together, because that is the one and true medicine for all: love, and community—light!
